Moving tributes marked the farewell ceremony for Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney at a remembrance service at Multi National Base Tarin Kot on Friday, 27 Aug 10. The Commander of Joint Task Force 633, Major General John Cantwell, the Commanding Officer of the 1st Mentoring Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Jennings and mates of Lance Corporal MacKinney all spoke movingly of the mateship and professionalism he displayed throughout his Army career. Lance Corporal MacKinney began the start of his journey home through a two-kilometre long guard of honour made up of members of the Australian, American, Dutch, Singaporean, French and Afghanistan armies.
