Maintaining our Chinooks serving in Afghanistan

The Australian Rotary Wing Group is a detachment from Australian Army Aviation and is deployed to the coalition airbase in Kandahar, flying Chinook CH-47s in support of coalition forces in Afghanistan.

They are tasked to carry Australian and coalition force cargo and personnel around the theatre of operations. Elements of the detachment are in theatre twelve months of the year however the Chinooks are only operational for eight months of the year starting in spring and going through into the autumn. The personnel and operations centre is located in Camp Baker.
