HMAS Parramatta takes on fresh produce
Resembling a country farmers' market for a little while, the Quarter Deck of HMAS Parramatta was transformed in the middle of her tour of duty in the Middle East Area of Operations with the arrival of fresh produce in a dhow off the northern coast of Somalia. The unconventional delivery of fresh food to the Australian Warship had the crew hopping to, forming a human chain to get it all aboard and stored away before resuming patrol duties in the Gulf of Aden. HMAS Parramatta is deployed for six months to the Middle East Area of Operations as part of Operation Slipper, The Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the International campaign against terrorism, countering piracy in the Gulf of Aden, and maritime security. During her deployment, Parramatta is helping provide security in the maritime environment, promoting regional stability and global prosperity. These operations complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt violent extremists’ use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
