Governor-General Visits Troops in the United Arab Emirates

The Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, recently visited Australian troops deployed to the United Arab Emirates at Al-Minhad Air Base in Dubai.

Ms Bryce took the opportunity of her extended stop-over in the area caused by European flight disruptions, to hold an afternoon tea with the Australian troops working in support of operations in Afghanistan, the Arabian Sea, and Iraq.

Following the afternoon tea, Ms Bryce addressed the sailors, soldiers and airmen present, before being taken on a brief tour of the Australian operational headquarters by the Commander of Australian forces in the Middle East, Major General John Cantwell.

The Governor-General was accompanied by her husband, His Excellency Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, and the Australian Ambassador to the UAE, Mr Doug Trappett.
