ASLAVs Return Home by C-17

Two long serving Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAV) were loaded onto a Royal Australian Air Force C-17 Globemaster in Tarin Kot recently (15 Mar 10) for the flight home after almost 10 years of combined service in the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO).

One of the ASLAVs first deployed to Southern Iraq in early 2005 as part of the First Al Muthanna Task Group (AMTG-1) and saw service in AMTG-2 and Overwatch Battle Group Four (OBG(W)-4).

Towards the end of 2008 the ASLAV was transported by C-17 to Tarin Kot, Afghanistan, to provide vital combat capability to Australian troops serving in the First Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF-1), MRTF-2, and more recently the First Mentoring Task Force ( MTF1).

The second ASLAV deployed with OBG(W)-4 in early 2008 and was transported to Tarin Kot later that year.

ASLAVs are the steed of today's Australian Army Cavalry, and these two work horses have now returned to Adelaide for a major refurbish after years of reliable service.
