Australian Ambassador to Afghanistan Visits the Troops
On 13 February, Australian Ambassador in Kabul, Paul Foley, accompanied Canadian Ambassador, William Crosbie, on a visit to multi-national Base – Tarin Kot. The purpose of the visit was to give Ambassador Crosbie an appreciation of what Australian soldiers and civilians are doing in Uruzgan Province, and to exchange ideas and lessons from Ambassador Crosbie’s experience of the Canadian run Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kandahar City.
The Ambassadors attended a medal ceremony for outgoing members of the Australian Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force 2. They visited the Provincial Training Centre, where the AFP is working with European and American colleagues to train police recruits to work in Uruzgan, and the Trade Training Centre which is an Australian built facility that gives young men in Uruzgan carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills. The Ambassadors also received briefings from Australian, Dutch and American leaders, both from the military and civilian side, on the work being done by the Coalition in Uruzgan.
