Changing of guard for Australian soldiers - mission continues

Mentoring Task Force - 1 (MTF1) was formally granted authority from the outgoing Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force two (MRTF2) in a handover parade at the Multinational Base in Tarin Kot, southern Afghanistan, on 14 February 2010.

Troops from the outgoing MRTF2 and the incoming MTF1 attended the parade, which was addressed by MRTF2 Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Hocking, MTF1 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Jason Blain, and the Commander of Joint Task Force 633, Major General John Cantwell.

Lieutenant Colonel Hocking thanked the troops of MRTF2 for their achievements, and paid particular tribute to Australia’s counterparts from the Afghanistan National Army (ANA).

“Mentoring and fighting with you [ANA] has been a great privilege, and we will remember you fondly in the years to come,” Lieutenant Colonel Hocking said.

“To MTF1 on behalf of MRTF2 we wish you luck and we know as fellow Australians you will do us proud.

Lieutenant Colonel Blain paid tribute to the MRTF's efforts in bringing Afghanistan closer to peace, prosperity and security.

“You have left a legacy we will aim to continue,” Lieutenant Colonel Blain said.
