The Office of Defence Industry Support (ODIS) provides a seamless experience for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to engage with Defence.
ODIS is the trusted link for Australian SMEs looking to enter or expand their footprint in the Defence industry.
The core function of ODIS, through its industry engagement teams around Australia, is to provide advisory, guidance and mentoring services to SMEs.
ODIS works closely with State and Territory agencies, industry associations and Defence business partners, to help deliver capability that equips and sustains the Australian Defence Force.
Key services
- Specialist defence business advice, increasing the competitiveness of Defence SME partners so they have the capability to integrate into supply chains and grow to become competitive providers.
- Direct linkages to Defence procurement programs through proactively identifying needs of Defence capability managers and delivery groups.
- Identify current SMEs who can meet Defence needs in the short term and assist to build the capability of Defence industry.
- Direct linkages to Defence end users to support innovative industry initiatives.
- Assist SMEs to work with end users, Defence projects and industry programs to support greater innovative industry outcomes.
- Tailor grants to assist the development of SMEs to meet Defence requirements in the short, medium and long terms.
2026 National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program
The 2026 National Defence Strategy (NDS) builds on the strong foundations of the 2023 Defence Strategic review and the 2024 NDS. It focuses on strengthening Australia’s capacity to protect and defend Australia and our national interests within an increasingly contested and uncertain environment.
The 2026 Integrated Investment Program (IIP) will support efforts to deliver the 2026 NDS with greater self-reliance, strengthen the resilience of Australia’s sovereign industrial base and build stronger, more diverse international industrial partnerships and supply chains.
Report: Rebuilding Defence Capability
The Rebuilding Defence Capability report outlines the implementation plan for Defence reform throughout the transition year to set the Defence Delivery Agency up for success when it is established on 1 July 2027.
2026 Defence Industry Development Strategy
The 2026 Defence Industry Development Strategy (DIDS26) forms part of the Australian Government’s biennial review of Defence’s strategy policy settings and aligns with the 2026 NDS and 2026 IIP. Building on the previous 2024 strategy, DIDS26 sets a clear direction for enhancing Australia’s sovereign defence industrial base and ensuring Defence can deliver capability at the speed and scale required in a changing strategic environment.
