TOUCHING: Air Force player Troy Edwards breaks away with the ball.
Air Force won the men’s over-30s title and went close to sharing the honours with Army at the South Queensland regional inter-Service touch carnival recently.

Army was declared the champion Service within South Queensland after winning three of the four finals at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera.

Air Force won the men’s over-30s title with a 3-2 win, thanks to the efforts of CPL Troy Dawson who was named player of the final.

The tally might have been two titles for Air Force but in the men’s over-40s, Army just edged it 4-3 after a drop-off.

The tournament was conducted to determine the region’s champion Service and also to select training squads to represent at the ADF touch nationals at RAAF Base Williamtown later this month.

Army beat Air Force 8-5 in the women’s open final and 10-0 in the men’s open final.

Queensland Police Service teams joined Army and Air Force in the tournament.

“Games throughout the day were played to a high standard with high levels of sportsmanship and fair play displayed by all,” South Queensland Defence Force Touch Association president, CAPT Phil Corkeron, said.
