Air Force has a new mustering, which will provide a strategic airman/woman who will stand next to their commander and have responsibility for advising that person on the welfare and discipline of the airmen force.

The Director of Personnel – Air Force (DP-AF) GPCAPT Bob Rodgers said that the creation of the Executive Warrant Officer (EXECWOFF) mustering would grow Air Force’s capability and build on the excellent work already undertaken by members of the WOD mustering and those senior airmen/women who had held appointments at the highest HQ level.

“The EXECWOFF is a new position, with differentiated pay and duties from the WOD positions that have historically been associated at the higher levels of the organisation,” GPCAPT Rodgers said.

“An EXECWOFF, which includes the Warrant Officer of Air Force (WOFF-AF), will support the senior levels of Air Force command by way of diagnosing, analysing, advising on, and addressing strategic issues facing the airmen/women force.

“An EXECWOFF will also act as an advocate for airmen/women. These positions carry a broad scope of responsibility and prominence among airmen/women, and are reserved exclusively for warrant officers.”

All WOFFs are classified within a four-tier work value system. Tier A involves the direct application of trade-related skills at all levels of Air Force and applies to all musterings except EXECWOFF.

EXECWOFFs are classified as either tier B, C or D, which involves the application of high-level managerial and representational skills with specific reference to trade knowledge.

Tier B positions are primarily at wing level, tier C positions are primarily at HQAC and FEG level, and one tier D position which is reserved for WOFF–AF.

All EXECWOFFs will report directly to their commander and be a member of the commander’s executive staff.

Additionally, by virtue of their appointment, EXECWOFFs are the senior enlisted member within their respective command, FEG or wing. There is also one EXECWOFF position at the RAAF School of Postgraduate Studies, which will be responsible for EXECWOFF professional development and will also assist in the delivery of SQNLDR and other executive training.

“These airmen/women will be excellent communicators, both orally and written, will have well-developed analytical skills and will have a sound understanding of the complex interacting systems that comprise Air Force,” GPCAPT Rodgers said. “These are strategically-focused airmen/women who will oversee the welfare of personnel in their command and who will staff issues on behalf of their commander.

“I have no doubt that these members will be among the most influential of airmen/women and will work closely with other senior airmen/women, such as WODs, WOEs and Unit/SQN WOFFs to affect the best welfare and capability outcomes for Air Force,” he said.

Applications are being sought from substantively confirmed WOFFs to remuster to EXECWOFF, with effect from January next year, to take up tier B or C level positions. Applications close on October 16 and are to be sent to: DP-AF, attention (AT5), R8-6-042, Russell Offices, ACT 2600.

Further information is available in the information package which is has been sent to commanders and WOFFs, and is also available through People Central under the Executive Warrant Officer tab. For any specific questions not addressed in the information package, contact WOFF Kevin O’Sullivan on (02) 6265 6472.

Air Force EXECWOFF Scheme Statement of Principles
- An EXECWOFF is a commander’s key conduit to the airmen/women force.
- An EXECWOFF is an advocate for airmen/women.
- An EXECWOFF is selected on merit.
- All airmen/women can aspire to become an EXECWOFF.

The decision to pursue EXECWOFF should not be made lightly or simply on the basis of remuneration. A formal selection process, including interviews and assessments will be undertaken. DCAF and ACAUST will endorse the recommended candidates in much the same way as is currently exercised for command selections for officers.
