Serving and former ADF members and their families will soon benefit from a new range of support structures designed to provide them access to high-quality, accurate and timely professional advice, information and support across the full continuum of care.
Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence Bruce Billson launched the ADF Integrated People Support Strategy at Russell on August 27.
The strategy, which has been developed by Defence and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), provides four main thrusts of support: Through Service Support, Separation Ready, Separation Reconciliation and Separation Review.
- Through Service Support will ensure members are informed about and encouraged to access physical and emotional wellness, injury remediation and impairment support available through their unit, Service or tri-Service resources, as well as DVA programs to assist them in achieving and sustaining optimal wellbeing and work-place performance.
- Separation Ready aims to ensure ADF members preparing to return to civilian life are provided all reasonable assistance and support.
- Separation Reconciliation aims to ensure all Defence-related matters concerning the member are resolved before separation, while the Separation Review process ensures that key Separation Ready and Separation Reconciliation matters are revisited three to six months after the member leaves the ADF.
“This initiative reinforces Defence’s commitment to working with DVA, other government bodies and family support agencies to provide through-life support to our ADF members, former members and their families,” Mr Billson said. “The support strategy is just one of a range of measures to ensure that Australia’s Defence community has access to the highest quality services and advice.”
The strategy will strengthen the existing support services available to Defence members and will be trialled at RAAF Base Edinburgh from October 2. |
