The Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) is working to make learning easier for children with special needs from Defence families.

CIOG has collaborated with the Defence Special Needs Support Group (DSNSG) to provide surplus Defence laptops to selected Defence families. They are families with children who have a physical or intellectual disability, gifted children and those with learning difficulties, speech problems, depression or illness.

DSNSG National Coordinator Margaret Fisk said the group provided a number of programs to assist families and children with special needs, including the ‘Computer 4 Kidz’ program.

“The ‘Computer 4 Kidz’ program has been running for a number of years, initially using re-issued ex-Defence PCs,” Ms Fisk said. “Since then, other organisations have donated computers to the program so that children with special needs can access technology to increase their educational outcomes. The DSNSG rarely receives laptop computers and we were thrilled when contacted by CIOG with the offer of laptops.”
