The suite of resources available to 87SQN 81 Tactical Intelligence Flight (81TIF) range from the sophisticated to the comparatively straightforward, such as the humble laptop computer.
87SQN employed its full complement of capabilities to support Exercise Talisman Saber 07, with intelligence and counter-intelligence officers, geospatial imagery analysts and imagery managers deployed as part of the RAAF Base Townsville Task Unit Headquarters.
81TIF provided mission essential support to the planning and conduct of F/A-18 air defence, strike and offensive air support operations, including details of enemy disposition and intent; the nature and location of threats to F/A-18 operations; advice on threat capabilities; target intelligence; and support to Combat Search and Rescue planning.
81TIF CDR SQNLDR Rob Elliott said: “Our primary focus was ensuring that we provided accurate and detailed aerospace and targeting intelligence to enable the effective application of air power, and at our level that means successful air defence, bombs on target on time, and no friendly losses.” |
