The Air Force’s newest Military Self Defence instructor has just finished the gruelling, seven-day Military Self-Defence (MSD) instructor course in Canberra.
OFFCDT Lisa Tonkin, a second-year ADFA student, said she had been training in MSD since arriving at the academy.
“I’ve done martial arts for six years but military self-defence is much different,” she said. “It’s a lot more aggressive, a lot more confronting, and it teaches you to do the techniques under pressure.
“It’s more practical, especially for the operational environment. It is especially good for operations but self-defence can be applied in any conflict situation,” she said.
Fellow Air Force course participant, CPL Ewan Eadie, said the training was tough.
“The course was very intense, very fast, but informative,” he said. “Part of our basic training includes some defensive tactics, and I’m hoping we can use this to assist us with further training down the track for our troops.” |
