With winter upon us, another year of cross-country skiing has begun.
The Air Force Nordic Skiing and Biathlon team is inviting Service and APS members to join it for a fortnight of exciting competition and off-slopes fun at the annual Air Force and inter-Service cross country and biathlon championships.
The event will be held from August 5-17 at Mount Hotham in Victoria.
Team public relations manager FLTLT Satya Tanner said anyone is welcome to apply. “We need a maximum of 30 people in the team,” she said.
“However, no experience is required as everyone is coached and there are no age limitations. What we want is enthusiasm, determination to have a go and challenge yourself, and a sense of fun.”
There have also been some changes to the competition. The relay sprint has been rescheduled from its traditional course along the biathlon range to the Devonport village at the top of the mountain.
She said Air Force would go into the inter-Service competition with a lack of experience as many of its senior, more experienced skiers were unavailable.
“We normally have about a dozen [senior skiers], but this year we will probably have about six. Our focus will be on developing our up-and-coming beginner and intermediate skiers.”
