Although it may seem like it’s just a special effects showcase and an excuse to relaunch a toy franchise, Transformers has more than meets the eye.

The film is about the two factions of the Transformers, the Autobots and Decepticons battling it out to find “The Allspark”, a kind of mechanical life-giving cube, which is located somewhere on Earth. Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) and Mikaela Banes (Fox) become pulled into assisting the Autobots when Sam finds out his car is actually the Transformer, Bumblebee.

Along with the American military and secret government agencies, the Autobots engage in massive battles with the Decepticons throughout the movie, usually destroying roads, buildings and cars in the process.

The battle scenes are really a joy to behold if you love giant robots beating the circuits out of each other.

Technically, the movie is amazing. The computer animation is so realistic, you don’t even think for a second the Transformers are not real. The interaction between the humans and the Transformers is flawless, without a trace of the cartoony corniness you would expect due to the nature of the plot.

The movie left me wanting to experience more of the brilliance that is Transformers.
