EASY DOES IT: WGCDR Guy Wilson plays in the men’s team lawn bowls semi-final at the Arafura Games.

Australian Defence Organisation players made sure plenty of their opponents were “bowled over and squashed” at the Arafura Games in Darwin from May 11-19.

In more detailed results just to hand, after many ADO successes were reported in the May 31 editions of the Service newspapers, more successes have been uncovered in lawn and tenpin bowling and squash.

In lawn bowls, a tri-Service team including WGCDR Guy Wilson from RAAF Base Richmond joined Army and Navy team-mates to win bronze in the fours.

The bowlers also took silver for the best performed team overall.

In tenpin bowling, CPL Keiran Wyllie from Canberra won gold in the graded singles, with bronze going to Army’s W02 Steve Ritchie.

In the graded teams event, silver went to SGT Brett Byers from Canberra and CPL Wyllie and LAC Jason Storr from RAAF Base Edinburgh.

SQNLDR Denis Hunt from RAAF Base Edinburgh and Army’s WO2 Clive Thompson took the graded doubles bronze medal, with Navy’s PO Stuart McLeish also taking bronze in the graded all-events.

It was an all Air Force team of SGT Daryl Bessell from RAAF Base Williams, SGT Darryl Ferguson and LAC Craig Baldwin from RAAF Base Williamtown, and SGT Peter Gilkes from Borneo Barracks who took silver in the men’s squash team event. The individual event bronze went to SGT Bessell.
