Men and women cyclists will have to demonstrate their versatility if they are to win the 2007 Australian Defence Road Cycling Championships at RAAF Base Williamtown from July 14-15.
The road titles will consist of a criterium and time trial, as well as a road race.
The overall titles will be awarded to the male and female who amass the most points over the three disciplines.
If there is a tie, a countback will be used and the competitor with the most wins will be deemed the champion.
If a further tie-breaker is needed, the highest-placed competitor in the final race (time trial) will be crowned the overall Defence road cycling champion.
Titles up for grabs include the Defence road champion (points classification), general classification champion (overall time), road race champion, criterium champion and time trial champion.
First to 10th placegetters in the points classification will be allocated a maximum of 12 down to one point.
“The men’s and women’s A-grade general classification (GC) championship (overall time) has been included this year to really add another dimension to the racing,” said the Australian Defence Cycle Club president, SGT Mick Rand.
“The GC category will be run similar to the way tour races are run in professional cycling. Race winners and placegetters will be awarded time bonuses in all categories except for the time trial,” he said.
The men’s A-grade title will be contested over a 60km road race, 40-minute criterium and 32.5km time trial.
The women’s title and men’s B-grade will be decided by a 40km road race, 30-minute criterium and 19.5km time trial.
