| Another Hercules for MEAO Edition 4909, 31 May, 2007 |

A third C-130J from 37SQN has been deployed to the MEAO. Last month Prime Minister John Howard announced the Government’s intent to deploy a third Hercules to the Middle East as part of increasing the ADF’s commitment to Afghanistan. The Hercules departed RAAF Base Richmond on May 15. The deployment will take the number of Air Force personnel at its Middle East Hercules detachment to more than 150. The C-130J has been used extensively by the ADF in the Middle East. Since 2003, C-130s have airlifted more than 15,800 tonnes of cargo in the MEAO, as well as transporting 63,800 passengers and 2275 medical patients. |
