New 409SQN banner is paraded

RAAF Base East Sale hosted a parade of a special kind recently, when local Air Force cadets from No. 409 Squadron received their new banner.

The cost of the banner was considerably offset by contributions from Wellington Shire, Sale and Bairnsdale RSLs, Officers’ and Sergeants’ Messes RAAF Base East Sale, Gippsland Vietnam Veterans, Rotary and private contributions.

The banner was dedicated by Acting Base Chaplain SQNLDR Bob Heathwood before being formally handed to Banner Bearer CSGT Shane Kelly by the Reviewing Officer, WGCDR Nick Edwards from TASPO.

The day was also a great family day for the base with many members having children on parade with 409SQN. At a light lunch in the Airmens’ Mess following the parade, 409SQN CO PLTOFF (AAFC) Scott Wiggins accepted a cheque from the Wellington Shire Mayor Councillor Beth Ripper and paid tribute to the many people who had helped with the banner and the parade.
