SHOOT ‘EM UP: Mark Wahlberg is less than convincing in Shooter.

Bob Lee Swagger (Whalberg) is a retired sniper who is living a reclusive lifestyle in the mountains after a failed mission where his partner was killed.

He is approached by a retired colonel, Isaac Johnson (Glover), who asks him to help stop an assassination attempt on the president.

Swagger agrees to the mission which turns out to be a set-up where an ambassador is killed instead of the president and Swagger is made to look like the criminal.

One of Johnson’s henchmen shoots Swagger, but he escapes and is on the run from the authorities.

He finds safety in the home of his dead partner’s widow who nurses him back to health so he can hunt down the people who framed him.

He teams up with a rookie FBI agent and together they take on corrupted authorities to clear his name.

Shooter has all the traits of a typical action movie with car chases, guns and bombs and is ideal if you like movies driven by action instead of an interesting story.

Mark Whalberg looks every part the action hero but his character’s personality is weak and emotionless. This movie starts off realistically but gets less and less convincing as it progresses.
