Sydney's dodgy underworld comes to the small screen in this gritty and exciting Aussie drama.
Winner of the Project Greenlight competition in 2006, Solo has now been released on DVD along with a behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of the film, commentary from director Morgan O’Neill and interviews with cast and crew.
Jack Barrett (Friels) is a 30-year-career hit-man who wants out of the game.
After falling into working for Sydney underworld bosses after returning from the Vietnam War, Barrett has been providing muscle for hire for most of his life.
But he dreams of retiring to the New South Wales south coast and spending his days fishing.
However, his underworld masters stand in his way and simply resigning isn’t that easy.
As he completes his latest ‘job’, Barrett sits in a small boat as he dismembers a body and feeds it into the water. His mind wanders to his dream of the coast and he decides to set out and make it a reality.
The film covers the next five days of his life and we’re introduced to prostitutes, bent cops, crime bosses and drug lords as Barrett goes in search of escape and redemption.
This is a great film, especially considering its small budget. |
