AIR Force Queensland was edged 2-1 when it took up the cudgels against South Queensland Army in the Queensland inter-Service Cricket Carnival late last month.

Air Force Queensland played host to the carnival at Ipswich Grammar School. North Queensland Army was unable to defend its title because of operational commitments.

Two 50-over one-day games and one 20/20 game were played.

Air Force was comprehensively outplayed in game one.

A key contributor with the ball for Air Force was CPL David Morris-Brauer, who slowed a good start by Army with his 3-35 off 10 overs.

Despite good half-centuries by CPL Brendan Creek and SGT Mitch Docket, Army 8-242 beat Air Force 8-185. Much-improved Air Force bowling put it in a good position after dismissing Army for 150 in 42 overs in game two. CPL Kieron Perry was excellent with the new ball (3-15 off eight overs) and was ably backed up by spin twins CPL David Morris-Brauer (1-11 off 10) and team captain FLTLT Leo Lochran (5-35 off 10).

Army retaliated with a terrific new-ball spell to topple the Air Force top order for 19 runs. Air Force lost by 57 runs when all out for 93.

Air Force batted first in a terrific 20/20 hit-out to score 8-153. FLTLT Lochran scored 36 off 22 balls and CPL Mark Caplick 35 off 29.

CPL Morris-Brauer starred with 4-28 off four overs. Army fell 10 runs short, all out with three balls to go.
