Who let the Dogs out

WHEN they said the Dogs were barking in the MEAO, they weren’t referring to the four-legged canine variety.

Dog was the name adopted by Force Level Logistic Asset’s (FLLA) home-grown band, whose combination of contemporary and original songs, interspersed with laconic commentary, enthralled crowds at the FLLA base. The crowds were predominantly Australians and Americans who regularly gathered in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) tent to watch the Aussie rockers.

The band members, SGT Paul Gebran, a supplier from RAAF Base Townsville, PTE Justin Mainwaring and PTE Joe Reid, were all deployed in the FLLA’s large equipment store.

Crowd-surfing and performing amazing acrobatic feats in support of the band was the FLLA’s inflatable kangaroo mascot, which leapt from audience member to audience member.

The large crowd they drew was evidence of their popularity at the FLLA’s base and their growing fame in the MEAO.

“It was a joy to be on operations and to be able to play music in front of an appreciative live crowd,” PTE Mainwaring said.

“It was a new experience, a great experience; the guys seemed to enjoy it and we enjoyed doing it,” SGT Gebran said.

They are now waiting for the phone to ring, having sent out their demo tapes to a number of record companies.

“Who knows? One day we might be back there as the lead act for Tour de Force,” PTE Reid said.

The band’s t-shirt was a hot sale item during their deployment, with each production run quickly bought up and many fans still seeking the “unleashed” shirt with its distinctive canine motif.

Dog has since returned to their fans at home.
