AIR Force has a new doctrine to shape its future in an increasingly uncertain world.

CAF AIRMSHL Geoff Shepherd launched the 5th edition of Air Force’s air power doctrine at his 2007 Air Show Conference in Melbourne on March 19.

The Air Power Development Centre developed the doctrine over the past 15 months.

“The new edition takes a fresh approach to describing air power for the Australian Air Force in the 21st century,” AIRMSHL Shepherd said.

The doctrine comprises three interlinking publications: The Future Air and Space Operating Concept, The Air Power Manual and The Australian Experience of Air Power. They have been presented to look at doctrine reflecting the enduring ties that bind Air Force’s past, present and future. The doctrine is complemented by joint, Navy and Army doctrine.

“This doctrine takes a fresh view of our air power in 21st century operations, and has a strong emphasis on working with others through joint, allied, coalition and inter-agency frameworks,” AIRMSHL Shepherd said.

“Continuing to develop the capability of our personnel will be the single most important factor in shaping the future of Australia’s air and space power.”
