| Six centres aim
for problem solutions By Gai Brodtmann Volume 49, No. 4, March 22, 2007 |
| SIX Fairness and Resolution Centres will roll
out to every major region in Australia in the next few months to help Air
Force members manage their equity and diversity, complaint and workplace
conflict issues through a one stop shop. The Fairness and Resolution Centres will provide members with access to regionally-based equity and diversity and alternative dispute resolution experts. These are the latest in a series of Fairness and Resolution Branch initiatives designed to deliver a fairer, faster, more flexible, and friendly dispute resolution service for Air Force. According to Air Force Reservist, barrister-at-law and mediator for Queensland, SQNLDR Kathryn Cochrane, the centres will provide an additional set of options for Air Force members. Workplaces are a significant dimension of our lives, SQNLDR Cochrane said. Our workplaces in the Air Force can be wonderful places to work because of the strong ethos of service to the nation, and because you make lifelong friends. However, when things go wrong, many Air Force members arent equipped to deal with situations. Air Force members need to be confident that if workplace problems are addressed quickly and informally, most are generally solvable. An expert team will help Air Force commanders and individual members resolve a variety of complex workplace issues. The centres will provide the opportunity to resolve issues at the lowest possible level in an informal and confidential manner. It is preferable to resolve a dispute by discussion at the workplace when compared to rights-based adverserial solutions, SQNLDR Cochrane said. For further information, contact SQNLDR Kathryn Cochrane on (07) 3233 4343 or 0405 197 813. If you would like to speak to an adviser anonymously, call the Defence Equity Advice Line on 1800 803 831, 1800 644 247 or 1800 626 254. |
