CONTESTANTS will aim to put themselves firmly in the frame for national
honours when they compete in the ACT/SNSW Inter-Service Tenpin Bowling Championships
on April 2 in Canberra.
Entrants will be vying for berths in the ACT Combined Services team for
the ADF National Tenpin Bowling Championships in Sydney from June 4-8.
Bowlers in this mixed-gender sport will compete for their respective Services,
and team selection will be open to all permanent, Reserve and APS members.
The championship will be decided over nine games, and the total pinfall
for each Service will determine the winner.
An order of merit will be used to select the 12-person ACT Combined Services
team and three reserves, with the top two Army, Navy, Air Force and APS
bowlers gaining automatic selection.
There are no qualifying standards but contestants must be members of Tenpin
Bowling Australia and be a member of a league to be eligible.
ADTBA president FSGT Paul Logan expects 15 to 30 players to vie for ACT
representative honours, with a field of 50-60 likely for the Australian
titles, which will be contested by state and territory representative teams
in singles, doubles and triples.
The top 16 bowlers and four reserves from there will comprise the
ADTBA representative team for the team and individual Australian titles,
FSGT Logan said. The representative team from last years national
competition will compete in the Arafura Games in May.
