New program at the sharp end of finance

Volume 49, No. 4, March 22, 2007
TO ENSURE that Air Force members remain at the sharp end of financial matters, the Finance Executive is introducing a Financial Workforce Certification Program.

It aims to make financially-trained personnel skilled and fully aware of the relevant financial policies, processes and procedures.

The program is designed to ensure Air Force members have the relevant competencies to meet their financial responsibilities; competencies that are certified to industry standards, where appropriate; and competencies that are aligned to Air Force business policies, processes and procedures.

The program is not targeting everyone in Air Force. Areas requiring certification will be determined by their level of risk to the financial statements.

The program will work within existing Air Force frameworks to provide the best solution for all.

To learn more about the program, interested readers can find the discussion paper at http://intranet.defence.gov.au/find/

The CFO is encouraging feedback on the paper so the final certification program meets business needs and requirements. A series of briefings are also scheduled to provide additional information on the program.
