Members from the Supply Trades Restructure (STR) team [under the LSA-AF] will be visiting bases in the next few weeks to present sessions on forthcoming changes under the Supply Trades Restructure program. Logistics officers are also encouraged to attend the presentations. On October 16 last year, the Chief of Air Force Advisory Committee endorsed a recommendation to restructure both the SPLR and CLKSPLY musterings of the Air Force to enhance future operational capability. As a result, two new musterings are to be established. They are the Supply (SUP) and Movements (MOV) musterings. They will be formed by dividing the current SPLR and CLKSPLY musterings along functional lines, resulting in two groups of specialists with one focused on movements operations and the other on supply support. Head of the Logistics Employment Group AIRCDRE Ian Smith said at the time the restructure requirement was based on changes to support needs that cannot be met by the current supply trades structure. STR team leader WGCDR Jane Wheaton said the change would not introduce new responsibilities for the two musterings. “The current duties of both the SPLR and CLKSPLY musterings are being divided up differently to remove overlap between roles,” she said. “This will help eliminate duplication of effort and allow Air Force to design training that is better structured and targeted according to workplace needs. The functions remain the same but the restructure will enable Air Force to provide better capability support now and into the future as new platforms come on-line.” The restructure will be undertaken during 2007 to early 2008. The musterings will transition from the current structure of SPLR and CLKSPLY to the new SUP and MOV musterings. Personnel currently in the SPLR and CLKSPLY musterings will be required to make an election to move into either of the musterings. Personnel will be fully informed of the restructure options before being required to make an election. The new musterings and their Initial Employment Training (IET) requirements will be established by January 2008.
