AIR Force’s SGT Jon Preston, from RAAF Base Amberley, has been selected for representative honours after the recent ADF Water Polo Association Inter-Service Championships in Townsville from December 4-8.

SGT Preston was selected in the men’s representative team for the Australian Country Championships in July in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

The men’s competition was contested by North QLD, NT and Combined South East QLD/NSW and the women’s by North QLD and a composite team from the NT, South-East QLD and NSW.

The men’s competition was won convincingly 14-5 by the combined South-East QLD/NSW team against NT after a tight semi-final between NT and North QLD. NT stole that game 10-9 in extra time after the two had been locked at 9-9 at the end of regulation time.

PTE Camille Reed led the way in the comprehensive 15-1 win by the combined NT/South-East QLD/NSW team in the women’s final against North QLD.

Most valuable player in the women’s competition was PTE Reed, with a three-way draw for the men’s award between Army’s CFN Craig Spence, CAPT Davis (Army) and CFN Mason Watts.

“About 70 players competed, including many new players, which is a promising sign for the future,” the new ADFWPA president SGT Karina Peacock said.
