| Air Force web gets a facelift By Andrew Stackpool Volume 49, No. 1, February 8, 2007 |

Air Force Information Manager John Yialeloglou said the major change is that the home page is now a portal-based design, which presents information by category. This makes it easier to find a link by choosing the appropriate category. For example, career information including DGPERS-AF, PMKeys and DMA-AF can all be found in ‘My Career’. “In the past, the home page listed every major link,” he said. “This produced a cluttered layout, which impeded finding information quickly. Under the new layout, it will be much easier for users to navigate their way around, as the new design groups information logically.” The key topics have been bundled to assist in navigation around the RAAFWEB and to make it more user friendly. The main headings are: Our Air Force, Business, My Career, Information, Health and Safety, Rebalance our Air Force, Events and Public Relations. The decision to upgrade the site started in May last year and was part of an ongoing business improvement process being conducted within AFHQ. The Communications and Reputation Management (CRM) team led by WGCDR Jo Elkington saw an opportunity to improve the service to Air Force personnel by introducing a simpler and more intuitive interface in keeping with best-practise and contemporary design. The portal concept and initial designs were produced by Mr Yialeloglou then handed over to Air Force Intranet Manager SGT Darren Carruthers and the CRM team for refinement and production prior to implementation. WGCDR Elkington managed the process and every step was completed utilising in-house AFHQ skill-sets. Mr Yialeloglou said AFHQ was encouraged by the positive response from personnel so far, however it was closely monitoring feedback with a view to refining the new design as necessary. “The Intranet and the AIR FORCE News are our main means of passing information and key messages to our people in a clear and interesting way. Life without either would be very dull,” he said. AFHQ is encouraging feedback on the new site, which can be forwarded to RAAFWEB.admin@defence.gov.au |
