THE Australian Services Basketball Association’s 2006 titles may be a week off yet, but the mind games have begun already in the battle for the national crowns.
The championships will be held at RAAF Base Townsville from December 1 to 9.
“Like the weather at this time of the year in Townsville, the competition is expected to be heated, with various states vying for the champions’ trophies,” event organiser WOFF Mick Kearney said.
“NSW are the 2005 titleholders in both the men’s and women’s competitions and, from all reports, expect to throw down the gauntlet again this year,” he said,
“Big noise is coming from the ACT/Wagga teams with both their teams stacked with current and former Australian representatives who never lack confidence on and off the court. They believe they have the calibre to take out the double crown this year from NSW in both the men’s and women’s but it seems both these states have forgotten five other teams exist [SA, WA, VIC, QLD and NT].”
Players and officials from this competition will be selected to represent the ADF at the Arafura Games in Darwin in May 2007.
