ALL OUT: Dr Ken Michael, Governor of Western Australia, inspects members of No 25 (City of Perth) Squadron at the parade when it received the Air Force Association Trophy for 2005. |
PERTH’s own Air Force Reserve squadron, No 25 (City of Perth) Squadron, is a seven-time winner.
The squadron received national recognition on September 23 when it was formally presented with the prestigious Air Force Association Trophy for 2005. The squadron was the inaugural recipient of the trophy in 1961, and 2005 marks the seventh occasion that it has won the award.

AVM Roxley McLennan (Retd) presented the trophy to Squadron CO, SQNLDR Ross Magno, at a parade at RAAF Base Pearce. Dr Ken Michael, Governor of Western Australia and Honorary AIRCDRE to 25SQN, reviewed the parade.
Other dignitaries included CAF AIRMSHL Geoff Shepherd, MAJGEN Barry Nunn (Retd) and GPCAPT David Pasfield, OC Reserve Training Wing.
No 7 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets of 715SQN and the Central Band provided additional support to the parade, while FLTLT Adam Clarke, from 2FTS, provided a low-level aerobatic display as a prelude to the parade. A PC-9 from 2FTS and a Macchi jet trainer were static displays.
Addressing the parade, Dr Michael praised 25SQN for its commitment, ability and
professionalism.
“The presentation of this trophy is recognition of the commitment by all members of the 25SQN team – both the Reserve members and the permanent cadre staff – that work together to meet the squadron’s goals and objectives,”
he said.
SQNLDR Magno dedicated the trophy to past and present members, families and friends, and to the support of civilian employers.
“I am very privileged to serve as the CO of 25SQN,” he said.
“The Air Force Association trophy is a fitting reward for the commitment and loyalty of members of the Air Force Reserve.”
CAF acknowledged the “great team effort symbolised on the parade by members of the Reserve, PAF and Air Force Cadets. 25SQN was well deserving of the award”.
The Air Force Association Trophy recognises the important contribution made by a squadron to local and national Defence objectives, as well as the high levels of individual commitment and readiness displayed by members of the squadron during the year.
