FORMER COs of the Joint Electronic Warfare Operational Support Unit (JEWOSU) were among the guests at RAAF Base Edinburgh to witness Defence Minister Brendan Nelson open the $20 million redeveloped facility recently.
The Service Chiefs and representatives of the RAF, USAF, Canadian forces and NATO were also present.
Commander Aerospace Operational Support Group (AOSG) GPCAPT John Teager welcomed the VIPs to the event, which comprised a parade by uniformed JEWOSU personnel, the dedication and official opening of the facility, and a tour by VIP guests.
JEWOSU is an operational unit of AOSG. It provides direct support to every operational ADF unit that requires Electronic Warfare (EW) operational support and system assistance, the Defence Intelligence Group and the Defence Materiel Organisation. The unit works closely with DSTO’s Electronic Warfare Radar Detection unit, located at Edinburgh.
JEWOSU also provides EW software development, EW counter-measures development, systems testing, training and operational support.
The redevelopment is part of an upgrade of critical Defence operational support capabilities and was necessary to enable JEWOSU to meet future ADF EW requirements.
