THE 2006 Defence DHL Lake Attack for family and children’s charities in Victoria has produced a record total of $150,000.
The total was bolstered by funds raised at a post-event dinner at Victoria Barracks. Hundreds of runners, walkers and spectators thronged Melbourne’s scenic Albert Park Lake route on August 27 for the 24th anniversary of the annual community charity fun
run event.
All funds raised would be divided equally between Legacy, the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children, the Compassionate Friends and the Kidsafe Child Accident Prevention Foundation.
The day included a choice of a relayed team event or an individual run/walk with individual, school and Defence categories.
Defence personnel set up logistics for almost 2000 participants.
Classic ‘warbirds’ from the RAAF Museum shared the skies with Navy – two Harvard trainers were accompanied by a Winjeel trainer in a series of formation flypasts.
“The Lake Attack has grown beyond event organisers’ expectations, with more than $100,000 raised last year through 1400 participant registrations,” Commander Joint Logistics AVM Christopher Spence said. “The 2006 event was also given a financial ‘leg up’ by DHL with a generous $35,000 sponsor’s cheque.”
