Fancy footwork in City to Surf
Volume 48, No. 17, Sepetember 21, 2006
FLTLT Richard Gardiner was a memorable second place winner in the ADF men’s division of the recent 14km City to Surf.
Gardiner, 31, was among more than 50 ADF runners to compete against 60,000 entrants in the annual event, held on August 13.
In the lead-up, the men’s race looked to be between the ADF 10km champion, Army’s CPL Dave Whitehead, and FLTLT Gardiner, and that was how it finished.
CPL Whitehead came in 14th overall with a time of 45min 4secs with FLTLT Gardiner not far behind, finishing in 47hr 45min and 52nd overall.
FLTLT Gardiner won this year’s ADF Marathon on the Gold Coast on July 2 in 2hr 35min and beat two former Army winners in the process.
He has been running for seven years and has taken aim at the Gold Coast Half Marathon (triathlon) to be held on October 1.
