ADF makes a splash in UK polo comp

Volume 48, No. 17, Sepetember 21, 2006

THERE were no hostilities — just friendly rivalry — as the ADF representative water polo teams had mixed results in their own recent Battle of Britain.

The ADF Water Polo Association’s tour of Britain involved matches against British Air Force, Army and Navy teams, as well as several civilian teams.

The men’s team scored six wins and five hotly-contested losses, while the women’s team had five losses playing as a women’s team and two wins playing as a mixed team.

“The teams displayed moments of brilliance against well-drilled British military and civilian teams and established bonds that will surely result in a British team coming ‘down under’,” ADFWPA president CAPT Scott Davis said.

“The experience gained by all will provide ADF Water Polo with the foundation for future success,” he said.

The ADF men had mixed results with some close games producing third place overall behind the UK under-19’s team.

The highlight was the ADF men’s team beating the RAF 4–3 in a close, physical game.

The ADF women’s team, reinforced by three Dutch players, played five hard-fought games, but ended the tournament without a win.

During the tournament, there was an unexpected royal visit at Bath when Prince William played for the British Army team.

After the completion of the tournament, in which the RAF confidently beat Navy in the final, the ADF men contested the triangular tournament involving the British Civil Services, British Police and the British Combined Services team.

The ADF team did not play to its potential and lost all three games narrowly.
