Volume 48, No. 16, Sepetember 7, 2006

G’DAY: CAF AIRMSHL Geoff Shepherd mingles with cadets visiting Australia on exchange.

TWENTY-SIX air cadets from the UK, US, Canada, Netherlands, Sweden and Singapore recently got a taste of the finer side of Australian culture as part of the International Air Cadet Exchange program.

The cadets met the Chief of Air Force and visited RAAF Bases East Sale and Williams, as well as enjoying some Aussie traditions including an AFL match at the MCG.

According to Australian Air Force Cadets Military Director, WGCDR Kerry McDonald, the aim of the IACE program is to foster international understanding, goodwill and friendship among young people who have an interest in aviation.

“The program does this through the exchange of cadets between IACE member countries. Over 600 Australian Air Force Cadets have gone overseas on exchange and we have hosted a similar number of foreign cadets over the years,” he said.

Exchanges between air cadets from the UK and Canada began in 1946. Now 19 countries, including Australia, participate in the IACE program.
