CPL's just rewards

Volume 48, No. 16, Sepetember 7, 2006

HIGH standards have taken a member of 44WG Det Darwin to the top with the awarding of the annual TC Delahunty Award.

Communications Electronics Technician (CETECH) CPL Simon Reid has taken out the award with professionalism and competence.

As a result of resignations, deployments and postings, the experience levels within CPL Reid’s workplace had dropped. Despite these trying circumstances, CPL Reid continued to perform at the highest standards.

The Detachment’s Senior Maintenance Manager, SQNLDR Jim Veino, said CPL Reid led the “radar and navigation section with a professionalism and competence that would not normally be expected of a junior corporal”.

In winning the award, CPL Reid demonstrated he had provided the most positive contribution in support of 44WG activities as well as excellent trade skills.

In presenting the award to CPL Reid, WGCDR Edwin Boyd said, “CPL Reid’s contribution to the sustainment of operations at 44 Wing Det Darwin was an excellent practical example of the commitment and dedication that typify the best of Air Force tradition”.

SQNLDR Vein said that despite the often stressful environment, CPL Reid’s ‘military bearing and deportment’ was ‘impeccable’ and ‘composed.’

The award, sponsored by GPCAPT TC Delahunty, the first Officer Commanding 44WG, is open to all airmen and airwomen (FSGT or below), as well as APS equivalents, who are posted to 44WG detachments.

The award was instituted to recognise the high standards of maintenance and support provided by junior personnel in the provision of ATC and base radio operations.
