FUTURE Australian cricketers from RAAF Base Tindal and Katherine recently received some hands-on tips from Australian cricket stars Brad Haddin and Shane Watson.
Both Brad and Shane offered their time to coach young players from the Tindal cricket club and Katherine junior cricket club, during a whirlwind visit to the base while competing in the Top End series against the New Zealand, India and Pakistan A teams.
The visit was organised by the Forces Advisory Council on Entertainment (FACE) as part of an initiative to provide entertainment to Defence personnel and their families posted to remote localities.
The two cricketers were given a tour of the base, which included the chance to discuss the F/A-18’s finer points with 75SQN’s SQNLDR Tim Alsop, and a demonstration of military working dogs by CPL James Notaras and LACs Geoff Brown and Steve Pratt.
After lunch, the cricketers conducted a clinic in the nets, hosted by the Tindal cricket club. Catching, bowling and batting techniques were on the agenda with the two stars bowling a few overs.
