COMMITMENT TO FIGHT: LTCOL Craig Johnston, left, presents Mrs Sherone Brown and her husband SQNLDR Gordon Brown, with a cheque to help with cancer treatment for Sherone.

ADF Hockey Association members have shown good sportsmanship on and off the field during the recent championships, raising $3775 for the Air Force’s Brown family.
Personal donations were collected during the week-long competition for Sherone Brown, the wife of long-time member SQNLDR Gordon Brown.
Mrs Brown has endured multiple operations and months of subsequent treatment in her battle with breast cancer. The 40-year-old mother of two young boys, who worked at RAAF Base Tindal as a family liaison officer, is undergoing a 12-month course of the cancer-inhibiting drug Herceptin at a cost of about $60,000.
SQNLDR Brown, ADF national player and coach, and active member of the Association for well over a decade, brings the Brown family courage and tenacity to every aspect of his association with the game, according to Hockey Association president, LTCOL Craig Johnston.
“Those same traits are evident in Sherone’s battle with cancer and we as an association are able to help one of our own family on her quest against this deadly disease,” he said.
“... in my 24 years as a member of this association I have never been prouder of the commitment and generosity of our members, in particular our younger players, in making their own personal donation to one of our own families during their fight against cancer,” he added.
In presenting the $3775 cheque to the Browns, LTCOL Johnston said: “This is a token of our friendship, recognition of the esteem in which the ADF Hockey Association holds you both, and a commitment from all of us that we will be at your side as you fight on.”
