LAC Dean Selby
October 23, 1986 – June 8, 2006

Volume 48, No. 11, June 29, 2006

LAC Dean Selby passed away on June 8, aged only 19, after a tragic motorcycle accident on Mt Stuart in Townsville.

He joined the Air Force in May 2004 as a communications electronics technician and was posted to 44WG Detachment Townsville after trade training at HMAS Cerberus. His role at 44WG involved maintaining Townsville’s Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS) radar.

LAC Selby was commended by the Commander, Surveillance and Response Group, for his professional performance as part of the 44WG Mobile Air Operations Team (MAOT), deployed to Innisfail Aerodrome in late March as part of Operation Larry Assist.

LAC Selby’s funeral was held at Townsville on June 14, attended by family and friends, OC 44WG, CO HQ44WG and 44WG Detachment members. He will be sorely missed but always remembered.
