Central Bands fine reputation reaches not only across Australia,
but the world, with one hopeful recruit auditioning in Austria.
Band members made the most of a rare opportunity to audition clarinet
player Julia Stoppa in Vienna on their return from Anzac Day commitments
in Gallipoli.
Julia has lived in Holland for the past decade, performing with
bands and orchestras throughout Europe, and wants to return to
Australia with her family.
If successful, I hope my experience with the world-famous
Dutch Marine Corps Band will hold me in good stead said
Julia, who flew from Amsterdam to Vienna for the audition.
According to Command-ing Officer SQNLDR Steve Wright, the audition
to join an Air
Force band is rigorous because recruits are expected to already
have an exceptionally high standard of trade skills.
The Air Force does not provide this music training.
The Air Force bands have a reputation second to none in
Australia, and it is not unusual to receive overseas enquiries
from ex-patriots and foreign nationals, SQNLDR Steve Wright
said.
The Air Forces two bands offer a very effective and
economical capability of which all members of the Air Force should
be justifiably proud.
