Newest pilots set to take off

Volume 48, No. 7, May 04, 2006

FIVE Air Force students will leave Tamworth behind this month after graduating from Basic Flight Training School (BFTS).

FLTLT Ivan Dovana, OFFCDT Cameron Grealy, OFFCDT Jarrod Moxey, OFFCDT Shane Saunders and OFFCDT Adrian Wilson completed basic flying training after passing their general flying test.

The Air Force students are only the second group to complete flying training in the CT4B under the new 63- hour curriculum, which will streamline Air Force and Navy pilot training by matching basic flying training at ADF BFTS with the advanced flying training at 2 Flight Training School at RAAF Base Pearce.

The students said one of the highlights of their seven months in Tamworth was flying solo in the CT4B.

OFFCDT Grealy said, “Going solo is a real buzz. It is a little strange at first but then you realise that you don’t need the instructor there. It is a real confidence boost.”

The students will join 2FTS after completing additional training at the Combat Survival Training School and the RAAF Institute of Aviation Medicine.
