OFFCDT Adam Brown crosses swords in a duel.

IT was a duel to the finish as one of the Air Force’s top fencers made the final four at the first ADFA Fencing Club (AFC) competition for the year.

AFC President, OFFCDT Adam Brown, was one of five fencers from ADFA to compete in the season starter in Canberra, which also included competitors from various ACT fencing clubs and universities.

Following the initial seeding contests, Brown joined Army fencer, OFFCDT Tarrant Derksen, in the top duellers of the competition, finishing fourth after a close bout with a university competitor.

With the fencing year just begun, the AFC hopes to continue the success and national recognition the club achieved in 2005. Numbers are already up from last year and consist of both beginners and veterans.

The AFC caters for all three fencing weapons – foil, epee and sabre – and runs training sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm to 8.30pm at the ADFA Indoor Sports Centre in Canberra.

Classes are free and beginners are welcome.
