RESERVE
Training Wing has made a home at RAAF Base Amberley after becoming
the newest member of the Training Command family.
Formed from Combat Reserve Wing on January 1, the wing held a
three-day conference with executives from each of its ten squadrons
from February 1-3. Presiding over the conference was newly appointed
Officer Commanding Reserve Training Wing, GPCAPT Dave Pasfield.
A highlight of the conference was the awarding of an Air Commander
Australia Commendation to outgoing Officer Commanding Combat Reserve
Wing, GPCAPT Monty Smith. The commendation, presented by Director-General
Reserves AIRCDRE Peter McDermott, was awarded for GPCAPT Smiths
contribution and leadership in the establishment and development
of Combat Reserve Wing.
GPCAPT Smith thanked his executive and squadron COs for
their support during his tenure as Officer Commanding. He retires
from Air Force after 36 years of permanent and Reserve service.
The agenda focussed on the Reserve restructure currently taking
place within Air Force. The restructure involves embedding over
5000 Reserve positions in permanent Air Force and tri-Service
units.
This year will provide many opportunities for the Reserve
units around Australia and I am proud to lead the dedicated men
and women of the RAAF General Reserve through such an exciting
time, GPCAPT Pasfield stated.
Reserve Training Wing will be at the forefront of coordinating
over 3000 Reservists who will be posted into newly created positions
within the Reserve wartime establishment.
CO No. 23SQN, SQNLDR Brady Cummins, emerged from the conference
confident stating, If it all goes to plan then the role
of the Reserve squadron, that being, raise and train,
will be at the forefront of ADF Reserve capability into the future.
