NO. 34SQN opened its doors to the newest intake of ADF officer cadets recently, to give them a taste of what’s in store when they graduate from the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA).

The cadets were welcomed onto the base by the Squadron ADMINO, FLTLT Peter Greenacre, and were quickly fallen in to inspection order for the arrival of the Governor General, MAJGEN Michael Jeffery.

On arrival, the Governor General chose not to conduct a formal inspection and instead brought the cadets into a single group and spoke to them of the proud Service they have enlisted in, and the noble profession which they aspire to join.

The cadets were then taken on a tour of No. 34SQN and its VIP aircraft, including a 737 BBJ and Bombardier Challenger. They also got the chance to view two Hawk fighter aircraft from No. 76SQN, which were visiting from RAAF Base Williamtown.

It provided the first opportunity to see Air Force aircraft up close since beginning their ADFA training, and also to speak to serving officers about their various specialisations and experiences.

The visit introduced the first-year cadets to a base environment and motivated them to excel at the Academy before reaching their units in three or four years.

The cadets thanked Nos. 34 and 76SQNs for providing the aircraft, all the Squadron personnel who donated their time to spend with them and display their aircraft, and to FLTLT Peter Greenacre, without whom the day would not have been possible.
