FAMILY
and friends of RAAF Base Amberleys No. 6 Squadron got to
enjoy the sights and sounds of life in the Air Force at a recent
Squadron open day.
About 500 people, including Squadron members, attended the day
at RAAF Base Amberley, in what will become an annual event.
Commanding Officer Wing Commander Ken Quinn said of the day, It
provided the opportunity for all No. 6 Squadron members to show
their family and friends around their workplace, because their
support is vital to the capability that the squadron produces
for Australia.
The Amberley Brass Band provided entertainment and guests toured
several F-111 displays, including aircraft components, imagery
and life support equipment. On static display was an F/A-18 from
No. 75 Squadron and a Caribou from No. 38 Squadron.
The No. 6 Squadron Air Display Crew, Flight Lieutenant Craig Whiting
and Flight Lieutenant Luke Warner, wowed the crowd with a short
air display routine, which included a maximum rate climb, loop,
flat circle turn and spectacular dump and burn finale.
Following a BBQ lunch, Wing Commander Quinn presented some Defence
Long Service Medals to Squadron personnel, followed by an Airman
of the Quarter Award to Leading Aircraftman Dominic Rossetto,
for his efforts and dedication as a supplier.
LAC Rossettos contribution to No. 6 Squadrons
capability over the quarter was judged as the best amongst the
200-odd airmen and airwomen in the Squadron, based on the recommendation
of the Squadron Warrant Officer and all the Squadron SNCOs,
Wing Commander Quinn said.
Flight Lieutenant Craig Whiting was also promoted to squadron
leader during the afternoon.
