ACCOMMODATION
options for single Defence members being posted to Darwin will
soon improve with a new agreement signed between the Defence Housing
Authority (DHA) and Defence.
The agreement will enable the provision of Singles Choice off-base
accommodation for an 18 month trial period.
The trial is open to single ADF members with Rent Allowance entitlements
who are posted to Darwin.
Similarly, members who are married with dependants but are separated
and have Rent Allowance entitlements, may also participate in
the trial.
Under the trial, single ADF members will have access to a range
of modern apartments and townhouses close to the city centre.
DHA acting Managing Director Michael Del Gigante confirmed that
members can choose to share their accommodation or live alone.
Either way, the benefits of being able to live close to
the city and not having to pay a bond or rent in advance, plus
the added security of 24 hour, 7-day-a-week maintenance support,
should make this new accommodation a very attractive option for
single ADF members, he said.
