FOUR decades of service to the Air Force Cadets by the Commanding Officer No. 401 (Cadet) Squadron was recently recognised.

Squadron Leader Albert Lindner, who has been the Commanding Officer of the squadron for nine years, was presented an Air Force sword at a squadron ceremony.

Squadron Leader Lindner joined the Air Force Reserve on August 18, 1965, and was posted to Air Training Corps duties. The then-Aircraftman Lindner joined No. 14 Flight as an instructor.

After a range of instructional and administrative duties, including as NCO Discipline, he was commissioned and served first as the flight’s Administrative Officer and then as the Training Officer.

Subsequently, Squadron Leader Lindner was posted as an instructor to No. 27 Flight at Geelong while simultaneously providing assistance to No. 11 Flight at Footscray.

A posting to No. 30 Flight at Kyneton followed, after which he moved to the AAFC headquarters for eight years as Staff Officer Supply and Staff Officer Training.

On completion, he was posted to No. 16 Flight, City of Essendon, and finally to No. 1 Surrey Hills, which became No. 401 (Cadet) Squadron.

In civilian life, Squadron Leader Lindner is executive manager of mechanical engineering services for the Victorian Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board, where he manages the department’s manpower resources.
